Know your limits. Cannabis

How to Consume Safely.

Last month we touched briefly on the Endocannabinoid System and how it operates, so in this blog we are going to elaborate on just how unique that system is to each and everyone of us. Knowing how cannabis interacts with us is key to knowing how to consume your product safely.

Because each cannabis strain is unique, they all interact with our ECS differently. Some may relax you while some may heighten your anxiety or give you a sense of paranoia. There are a few key factors that will contribute to how effectively your ECS works like gender, weight, metabolism or consumption regularity. But regardless of your biological make-up, the most important thing to know is what you are consuming.

First things first, always purchase a product from a Licensed Producer. Although we know how nice it is to support your friend-turned-’entrepreneur’, unfortunately they don't know the exact dosage they are giving you. The golden rule has and always will be Start Low and Go Slow when it comes to your first experience with cannabis. If you don’t know what you’re getting, how can you know you’re starting low? Every person's journey with cannabis is a personal one, and often requires a lot of Trial and Error when it comes to figuring out what works for you. This includes all formats- not just smoking flower. Concentrates can be extremely potent, and edibles can produce a different high entirely.

The reason it’s so important for us to reiterate “Start Low and Go Slow” is because if you consume too much too quickly, it can lead to some very undesirable effects known and ‘greening out.’ Overconsumption is often the number one reason someone will have a “bad trip.” To avoid this from happening, we have a few general rules of thumb to follow:

  1. Get the goods from a reputable source. AKA A LICENSED PRODUCER Y’ALL.

    1. Ask your Flamingo+ budtender for help.

    2. Tell them what kind of session you’re aiming for and they will help you decide on potency and CBD:THC ratio.

    3. Place your purchase in the trunk (if you’re driving) or keep it in its container until you arrive at your destination- because consuming in public is not legal.

  2. Grab your munchies on the way, and make sure you have everything you need for your session before you consume.

  3. Ensure your surroundings are suitable to you and whoever you are with to make sure nobody is uncomfortable. Remember, in Manitoba this means private property only.

  4. Always plan a way home if you are not at your own residence. Cannabis consumption before driving is extremely dangerous as it could have serious effects on the way you drive. Cannabis can stay in your system for 8-12 hours so plan ahead to stay safe.

  5. Always err on the side of “less is more”. Start Low and Go Slow.
